“Bar Bayonne possesses an aesthetic that’s immediately pleasing: prototypically Gallic-Spanish but not full of tropes, cheerful yet urbane. It feels retro in a way that design nerds will find pleasantly hard to put their finger on: 1980s-’90s French concert posters, from Guns N’ Roses to Serge Gainsbourg; a neo-deco bar back with wine selections scrawled on the mirror and neon above for a ’60s or ’70s touch; timeless Parisian woven-seat bar stools and mismatched bentwood chairs; Craftsman-esque (or is it Victorian?) woodwork around the front door; paint colors in an almost psychedelic combo of lipstick red, sea-teal and mint.
